A survey on oral hygienists¢¥ awareness of collective tooth brushing at school

Abstract
Total 503 practicing oral hygienists were surveyed in this study. It was intended to confirm the gap between the dentistry¢¥s knowledge of collective tooth brushing at school and oral hygienists¢¥ knowledge on it. It also aimed to search for the ways to develop collective tooth brushing at school as an educational project to promote students¢¥ proper tooth brushing at school and also as a health project. The results were as follows;

1. The practicing oral hygienists didn¢¥t have a satisfactory level of knowledge on the period of use of permanent teeth, prevention of serious oral diseases, and time for tooth brushing.
2. Future oral hygienists should be fully taught about the fact that the first and second most common cause to make a Korean extract his permanent teeth are each dental caries and periodontal tissue illness and about the minimum number of time for tooth brushing from the dentistry curriculum to produce oral hygienists and from supplementary courses designed for oral hygienists.
3. All oral hygienists are supposed to help the public understand the fact fully that periodontal tissue illness and dental caries should be prevented in students to reduce the necessity of treatment, to cut down the national health insurance, and to prolong the life of teeth. At the same time, such efforts should also be taken as to let oral hygienists understand the effects of the prevention of periodontal tissue illness and dental caries in students on the needs of oral treatment, the national health insurance, and prolongation of tooth life.
4. All the oral hygienists in the country turned out to recognize the need to educate students about the proper tooth brushing time and methods and the need for schools to cultivate proper tooth brushing

habits in students.
5. All the oral hygienists in the country agreed with the proposal that the tooth brushing at school project should be carried out as a health project as well as an educational project to promote the proper tooth brushing behaviors in students at school.
6. A great portion of the practicing oral hygienists, accounting for 3/4 of the whole, supported the idea that an orderly and systematic collective tooth brushing at school project should be carried out.
